“What would happen if the elves in the North Pole went bad?” “What if instead of making toys, they destroyed them?” These are the two questions that started this writing journey. I asked my four kids these questions. This book came from several lively and hilarious discussions we had revolving around naughty elves.

My name is Mitchel Maree and I am a writer. I’ve been writing stories since I was a young kid. I always have some crazy story ideas stuck in my head. This book, The Magic Cube: The Mystery of the Cursed Elves, is my debut novel  and my first attempt at becoming a published author in the middle-grade fiction genre. This book is the first in, what I hope to be, a fun new series for young readers.

I am so excited to get this book published and out there into the hands of readers everywhere. This is a book I would have loved to read as a kid, and enjoyed reading to my kids as I worked on it. I know kids everywhere will enjoy this book. Its fun, it has adventure, it revolves around kids saving the day, and it’s about Christmas!

I’m choosing to self publish this book because I’ve put my heart and soul into it and I want to keep as much creative control over the content as I can. Self-publishing comes with a high price tag as well as the added responsivity for marketing.

Your money at work

Illustrations: Since this book is geared toward middle-grade readers, I’ll need a few pictures to keep them engaged and help move the story foward. I already hired a great illustrator and I love what she has done so far. I can’t wait to see the finished product.

Copy Editor: No one likes to start reading a book and find it is full of spelling errors, poor sentence structure, and grammatical mistakes. I find this is the fastest way to turn people off of the book, no matter how good the story is if the book has mistakes most people will never finish it.

Audiobook: I love audiobooks. My family spends many a road trip listening to books together in the car. I want to create an audio version of this book with my family. Its something we all want to do together, but it requires a little more than a phone recorder to make it decent. No one wants to listen to a book that is poorly recorded, or difficult to understand. We’ll need some basic recording equipment.

More then the money, I’m asking you to help market the book and help establish my status as a writer. If you are not able to give at the moment, I ask that you please share this Kickstarter with friends, family, and on social media platforms, in able to help get the word out of this exciting upcoming book.
